We Changed Because Customers Kept Showing Us the Same Problem

Why Rebels Market changed

Rebels Market started in 2012 as a marketplace. Customers kept finding the style they wanted but not a fit that worked. In 2025 we moved fully to leather shoes, boots, and jackets, made after you order and fitted to your measurements. The family behind it has worked with leather for generations.

The problem was fit.

Rebels Market began as a marketplace for styles that were difficult to find elsewhere. Over time, one customer problem kept coming back.

A boot looked right but did not come in the right width. A shoe fit in length but squeezed the forefoot. A jacket fit the chest but not the shoulders or sleeves. Some customers sized up to make room. Sizing up mostly adds length, so the shoe bent in the wrong place, the heel slipped, and the toes had empty space, while the forefoot gained very little. Sizing up a jacket did the same to the sleeves and body length.

People should not have to choose between the style they want and the fit they need.

For shoes, customers send foot length, ball girth, and a foot tracing. For jackets, shoulder width, chest, waist, length, sleeve, hem, and cuff.

Leather gave us a way to solve it.

For our founder, James, leather was already familiar. His family has worked with leather for generations.

That background became more relevant as we looked at the fit problems customers were bringing us. Leather shoes, boots, and jackets suited the problem because each one can be cut after the order. A shoe starts from a standard last that the workshop adjusts where a customer's measurements fall outside it. A jacket's fit has to be set before sewing, because needle holes in leather are permanent.

Why we narrowed the company

Not simply to sell leather. Narrowing gave us one specification and one fit process for everything we sell, with every set of submitted measurements reviewed by a fit specialist before production.

We looked for specialist workshops where leatherworking skill, material access, and care for the finished product were already part of the work.

Finding the right workshops took years.

We did not want to choose a workshop simply because it could manufacture shoes or jackets.

Over several years, we explored more than 20 countries. We looked for partners whose makers could last a left and right shoe consistently, stitch cleanly, cut around flaws in the hide, and work to a different specification on every order. They also needed good access to materials and a cost that still let us offer strong value.

We visited workshops, met the people doing the work, looked at how they handled leather and construction, and kept searching until the combination made sense.

León, Mexico

Deep footwear and leather experience, with tanneries, last makers, and sole suppliers concentrated in the same region.

Ubrique, Spain

Generations of fine leatherwork: precise cutting, skiving, hand stitching, and edge finishing. Our Ubrique partners make footwear and jackets, not only smaller leather goods.

Lahore, Pakistan

Established leather manufacturing, good material access, and experienced makers of both footwear and leather garments.

Those are the three regions we work with today. All three make every product we sell, and each order goes to the workshop with the skills that order needs.

The goal is not to manufacture in as many countries as possible. It is to find the right people for the work, wherever that expertise lives.

What changed for the customer

We stopped trying to be a marketplace for everything and narrowed Rebels Market around made-to-fit leather shoes, boots, and jackets.

Before Now
Choose from the sizes a seller offered Made after you order, to your measurements or the size you choose, with each shoe built to its own foot when feet differ
Product standards varied by seller Rebels Market sets the specification: vegetable-tanned uppers, a full leather midsole, and resoleable construction
The seller controlled much of the experience A fit specialist reviews your measurements, and Rebels Market stays responsible from order to delivery

Our goal is simple: help you get the style you want without settling for a fit that is only close enough.

The change is ultimately about the finished product: the design a customer chose, built with more information about how it needs to fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Rebels Market help if standard boots or jackets never fit me quite right?

Yes. We narrowed the company because customers were finding the style they wanted but not the fit they needed. Shoes, boots, and jackets are made after you order, from the measurements you send. We start from a standard last, adjust it where your measurements fall outside it, and build each shoe to its own foot when your feet differ.

Is Rebels Market still a marketplace with different sellers?

No. Rebels Market is now focused on made-to-fit leather shoes, boots, and jackets. Rebels Market defines the materials and product specification, works with specialist partner workshops, and stays responsible for the customer relationship.

Does made-to-fit mean my order is built from scratch instead of shipped from inventory?

Yes. You choose the style, send your measurements or keep the size you ordered, and a specialist partner workshop makes it. Production takes 10 business days, then shipping typically takes 3 to 5 business days. It is not the old marketplace model of choosing only from sizes a seller already offered.

Why does Rebels Market ask for measurements instead of just my shoe or jacket size?

A size label is only a starting point. Customers often had shoes that fit in length but squeezed the forefoot, or jackets that fit the chest but not the shoulders or sleeves. For shoes we ask for foot length, ball girth, and a foot tracing. For jackets we ask for measurements such as shoulder width, chest, sleeve, and length. These set the length, girth, and proportions, while the leather and construction are set by the style. You can also keep the size you ordered.

Does making leather goods in Mexico, Spain, and Pakistan mean lower quality?

Not by itself. Rebels Market chose León, Ubrique, and Lahore after exploring more than 20 countries. You can check quality on any leather shoe or jacket yourself: even, tight stitching, left and right panels that match, clean edges, and a sole that is stitched on rather than only glued.

How does Rebels Market choose which workshops make its leather products?

Workshops are chosen for specialist leatherworking ability, access to suitable materials, how they handle leather and construction, and whether the people doing the work care about the finished product. The current workshop regions are León in Mexico, Ubrique in Spain, and Lahore in Pakistan.

Do Rebels Market leather products come with a warranty?

Yes. Every product has a 1-year craftsmanship warranty. It covers material and construction failures under normal daily wear, such as a seam that comes apart or a sole that separates. It does not cover damage from misuse.
